Coach Tom has been coaching baseball for over 30 years and it is his true passion – especially helping kids learn the game of baseball so that they can succeed on and off the field. Tom has a broad spectrum of experience including collegiate coaching, leading a multitude of coaches and player clinics/camps, and managing youth teams at Thunder Academy.
Tom started his collegiate baseball coaching career early by becoming the youngest Head Coach in the country at the age of 21 for Parkland College in Champaign, IL. As an Assistant Coach, Tom helped develop the pitching staff at Coastal Carolina located in Conway, SC and then moved on as a scout for the Texas Rangers organization. He finished his collegiate career with Regis University as an Assistant Coach where he had several teams ranked in the NCAA top ten for hitting. During his collegiate coaching tenure, he had 10 former college players sign professional contracts with one player making the big leagues – Kevin Roberson with Chicago Cubs.
At the youth level, Coach Tom has led numerous youth players and coaches camps/clinics over the last 20 years and he has presented at the American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA) National Coaches Convention. He has also been an Assistant Coach at Stanley Lake High School and was the Camp Director of the Tom Dedin FUNdamental Baseball School.
For the last 3 years, Coach Tom has been active with Thunder Academy by coaching numerous youth teams, winning a league title and placing second in the open division, providing thousands of individual lessons and leading multiple camps and clinics. Over the last year, Thunder Academy has had 10 players move onto both the NCAA Division 1 and 2 levels.
Tom Dedin graduated from the University of Illinois with a Bachelor of Science, and a Master’s Degree in Sports Management.
