Darron Cox

Coach Darron has been immersed in the world of baseball his whole life – he played in the majors for the Montreal Expos and has coached within the Colorado Rockies organization. Most recently he founded Thunder Academy where he is now changing youngster’s lives through quality instruction.

As a player Darron has had many successes during his 14 year professional career and was a great leader on field as the “field general” or catcher. In addition to playing in the MLB, he was a 5 time Minor League All-Star who won an MVP award and had multiple seasons with a .300+ hitting average. During his NCAA career at Oklahoma University, he was a Big 8 Player of the Year, named to the Freshmen All-American Team, voted on to the OU All-Century Team (best OU players in last 100 years), and had zero errors as catcher for one full season.

As a professional coach for 4 years, Darron was the manager for the Colorado Rockies Rookie team in Casper WY where he coached future big leaguers Ubaldo Jimenez and Manuel Corpas. As the hitting coach for the Tulsa Drillers or Rockies AA affiliate he worked with players like Matt Holliday, Brad Hawpe, and Ryan Spilborghs which helped lead the club to multiple playoff appearances.

As the founder and owner of Thunder Academy, Darron has been changing lives for 6 years by coaching numerous youth teams, winning 2 youth state titles and 1 runner up, providing thousands of individual lessons and leading multiple camps and clinics. Over the last year, Thunder Academy has had 10 players move onto both the NCAA Division 1 and 2 levels.
